GAME RECAP: Berezowski sets single-season goals record, Tips win 4-3 shootout
VICTORIA, B.C. — Silvertips captain Jackson Berezowski exceeded the franchise single-season goals record in the campaign’s final game, helping lead Everett past the Victoria Royals 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night.
Tanner Scott opened the scoring for the Royals 17:48 into the first period, giving Victoria a 1-0 lead after one. The Silvertips responded 1:19 into the second period, as Carter Bear redirected a Kaden Hammell shot from the point for his first career WHL goal.
Berezowski potted the record-setting goal 5:04 into the second period, generating a turnover and sparking a shorthanded breakaway for himself. A quick release on a forehand wrist shot beat netminder Braden Holt for his 48th goal of the season, passing Joshua Winquist’s previous record set in 2013-14.
Victoria tied the game with less than two seconds remaining in the second period, as Brayden Schuurman evened the score at two.
Jesse Heslop reclaimed the lead for Everett 3:32 into the third period, tucking a backhander past the outstretched legs of Holt for his 12th goal of the season. The Royals forced overtime with the extra skater on, as Matthew Hodson tapped in his 17th of the year with 1:08 remaining in regulation time.
Raphael Pelletier netted the lone goal of the shootout, aided by three Tyler Palmer saves to seal a 4-3 victory.
Palmer turned aside 30 of 33 in 65 minutes of play for the win, his 16th as a Silvertip. The Tips finish the regular season 33-32-2-1.
