Carter Hart Named WHL Goaltender of the Week
EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips) announced in conjunction with the Western Hockey League that goaltender Carter Hart has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for his performance ending Nov. 20. Hart has been nominated for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award.
Earning the award four times last year and the reigning CHL Goaltender of the Year, Hart helped lead the Silvertips to a 1-1-1 week along with a 1.68 goals against average and .933 save percentage, appearing in all three games. He made 27 saves in a 6-1 win versus the Calgary Hitmen on Tuesday, November 15, before posting 21 stops in a 2-1 overtime loss at Kamloops on Wednesday, November 16, going head-to-head with counterpart and Team WHL teammate Connor Ingram. Rounding out the weekend, Hart made 22 saves in a 2-1 loss against the Lethbridge Hurricanes last Saturday.
Carter Hart leads the WHL in goals against average and is tied for 2nd in save percentage.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound netminder was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round (48th) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and was the first goaltender selected in the draft after winning the Del Wilson Trophy (WHL Top Goaltender) and being named CHL Goaltender of the Year for the 2015-16 season.
Hart is 11-3-3-0 in 18 appearances this season and leads the WHL with a 1.86 GAA, is tied for second with a .928 SV% and has one shutout. He also represented Team WHL at the 2016 CIBC Canada Russia Series, backstopping his squad to a 4-1 victory with 33 saves on November 8 at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
An eighth round pick (158th) of the Everett Silvertips at the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Hart is in his third WHL campaign, having compiled a record of 64-32-6-7, 2.16 GAA, .918 SV% and 11 shutouts in 113 career WHL regular season appearances.
