Royals swoop in for 7-3 win over Hawks
Victoria, B.C. – The Royals and Winterhawks returned to action tonight for Pink in the Rink night! Victoria exploded for seven goals in a bounce-back win over Portland, closing out the weekend with a victory.
Victoria wasted no time breaking the ice tonight. Nolan Stewart cashed in on an early power play opportunity with a shot between the legs of Portland goaltender Ondrej Stebetak at 3:14 into the game. Portland would respond with a shorthanded goal from Alex Weiermair at 9:34, before the Royals returned fire with a pair of goals from Tim Runtso and Max Silver at 10:02 and 13:10. The first intermission arrived with the Royals up 3-1 over the Winterhawks.
The Royals started the second period with a powerplay marker from Roan Woodward as he buried his 31st goal of the season just 51 seconds in. Despite power play opportunities for both sides, the third period would largely remain scoreless until Miles Cooper widened the Royals’ lead at 14:55.
