Royals fall in hard-fought clash with Oil Kings
Victoria, BC. — The Victoria Royals hit the ice at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre tonight to host the Edmonton Oil Kings in their only matchup of the regular season. A highly defensive game saw the teams tied for a majority of the 60 minutes, but Edmonton came out on top, besting the Royals 3-1.
After a scoreless first period, the Royals opened the scoring with a goal from Miles Cooper, assisted by Ashton Brown and Timofei Runtso, just over two minutes into the second frame. Edmonton knotted the game in the final minutes of the frame, with Ethan MacKenzie netting the equalizer to head into the second intermission with a score of 1-1.
The Oil Kings took the lead with Ethan MacKenzie’s second goal of the game on a power play around the 15-minute mark of the third period. Despite sending the extra attacker in an effort to force overtime, the Royals were unable to make up their deficit, and Edmonton’s Andrew O’Neill scored on the empty net to bring the final score to 3-1.
