Royals fall in final game of 2025-26 season
Victoria, BC. – The Victoria Royals hosted the Prince George Cougars tonight in the closing matchup of the 2025-26 regular season. With a playoff berth on the line, the Royals fought hard across every inch of the ice through all 60 minutes of tonight’s game, but came up just short with a final score of 2-1.
After a scoreless first period, Max Silver broke the ice just under three minutes into the second frame, assisted by Roan Woodward and Seth Fryer. The Cougars responded with a goal from Tyrone Sobry at 6:44, and the teams remained knotted at one headed into the second intermission.
Prince George took the lead with a goal from Koy Funk at 4:26 of the third period. The Royals pulled goaltender Ethan Eskit late in the frame in an attempt to tie the game and save the season, and fought to the very last second, but were unable to come back and fell with a final score of 2-1.
Tonight’s game marked the Royals’ annual Fan Appreciation Night, and although they did not receive the outcome they were hoping for, the Royals would like to extend their deepest gratitude to their fanbase, who were loud and proud throughout a hard-fought season at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.
