Royals edged out by Everett
Victoria, BC. — The Victoria Royals were back at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre to host the Everett Silvertips and kick off their final homestand of the 2025-26 regular season. A tightly contested battle saw the teams close in shots and face-off wins through 60 minutes of play, but Everett came out on top, besting the Royals 5-2.
Everett opened the scoring with a goal from Zackary Shantz at the two-minute mark of the first period. The Royals were unable to get on the board through the opening frame, and the Silvertips led 1-0 headed into the first intermission.
Caleb Matthews tipped in the equalizer goal off a pass from Heath Nelson at 4:33 of the second period. The Royals took their first lead of the night with a powerplay marker from Nolan Stewart just before the 15-minute mark of the frame, assisted by Odin Vauhkonen and Heath Nelson. Victoria outshot Everett 10-5 in the second period, and held the 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
The Silvertips knotted the game at two with a powerplay goal from Julies Miettinen early in the third period, and took a two-goal lead with back-to-back goals around the midway mark of the frame. An empty-net goal from Mathias Vanhanen in the final minutes of the game sealed the Silvertips’ 5-2 victory over the Royals.
