Ludovic Perreault Triggers the Teddies in Hard-Fought Shootout Loss

Victoria, BC. — The Victoria Royals returned to the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre tonight for their annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Tonight’s game marked the first of four consecutive games against the Vancouver Giants, and after 73 shots in 65 minutes of play, the Royals fell 5-4 in the shootout.  

 

Eager to release the teddies, Eli McKamey and Ludovic Perreault had some of the first few dangerous shots on Vancouver’s net, but the game remained scoreless through nearly 18 minutes of play.  

 

The Giants got on the board first with a goal from Ryan Lin at 17:41 of the first period, and after they were unable to convert on a late-frame power play, the Royals trailed 1-0 headed into the first intermission.  

 

After several close shots in the first few minutes of the second period, Ludovic Perreault netted the goal to release the teddies at the three-minute mark of the frame. The assist on the Teddy Toss goal came from Eli McKamey. The Giants retook the lead with a power play goal from Aaron Obobaifo at 12:44 of the second period, and they extended their lead to two with a goal from Tobias Tomik 21 seconds later. Brett Olson struck at 17:26 of the second period to bring the score to 4-1 after 40 minutes of play.  

 

Nolan Stewart notched back-to-back goals at 6:22 and 9:03 of the third period. His first goal was assisted by Como Wilson, and his second goal — assisted by Ludovic Perreault and Cosmo Wilson — brought the Royals back within one. Ludovic Perreault notched the puck top shelf, assisted by Eli McKamey and Nolan Stewart, to bring the game back to a tie at 12:04 of the third period. After both teams came close with several chances in the final few minutes of regulation, the teams remained knotted through 60 minutes of play, forcing the game into overtime. 

 

No scoring in overtime sent the game to a shootout, and the Giant took the win after four rounds of shootout.
