Royals Topple Giants in Back Half of Home-and-Home
Langley, BC. — The Victoria Royals took to the Langley Events Centre tonight for their second of four consecutive games against the Vancouver Giants. After falling 5-4 in the shootout against Vancouver last night, the Royals staged a third-period scoring masterclass led by Roan Woodward to take the 3-1 win in Langley.
The Royals dominated both sides of the ice through the first period, outshooting the Giants 10-5, and continuously shutting down the Giants in the defensive zone. Early dangerous Royals chances came from Ludovic Perreault and Nolan Stewart, but neither team could find the back of the net, and the game remained scoreless through the first 20 minutes.
Despite the Royals killing two penalties and ending the frame on a power play, the teams could not score through the second period, and the teams remained knotted at zero headed into the second intermission.
Roan Woodward opened the scoring with his 12th power play goal of the season, assisted by Hayden Moore and Timofei Runtso, at 5:12 of the third period. The Giants responded immediately with a goal from Cameron Schmidt, but Roan Woodward notched an unassisted marker to earn his second goal of the game less than a minute later. Completing the hat trick, Roan Woodward netted his third goal of the game at 9:12, assisted by Reggie Newman, to give the Royals the two-goal lead. The Royals maintained their 3-1 lead through the end of the period to secure the road win.
