Royals fall short in overtime
Spokane, WA. — The Victoria Royals wrapped up their US road swing tonight, taking on the Spokane Chiefs at Numerica Veterans Center. A close Saturday-night contest brought the Royals and Chiefs into overtime, but Spokane came out on top, besting the Royals 2-1.
After nearly a full period of scoreless play, the Chiefs got on the board first with a goal from Coco Armstrong at 18:22 of the opening frame to lead the Royals 1-0 headed into the first intermission.
The second period was scoreless, but after 40 minutes of play, the Royals held the Chiefs to only 12 shots on goal.
Caleb Matthews scored the equalizer goal for the Royals just over five minutes into the third period, with assists from Roan Woodward and Henry Peterson. The teams remained tied at one through the end of regulation, forcing an overtime frame.
The Chiefs took the game with a goal from Owen Martin 35 seconds into overtime.
