Royals Bested by Silvertips in First Meeting of Season

Everett, WA. – The Royals finished up their U.S. Division road trip tonight, facing off against the Everett Silvertips at Angel of the Winds Arena. Everett would win the contest with a score of 9-4.

The Silvertips opened the scoring early, their first goal coming from Jesse Heslop at 3:25 into the period over the arm of Seth Badry. They would double down soon after, with Tarin Smith finding the back of the net just 41 seconds later. Victoria responded minutes later by way of Timofei Runtso, as the rookie defenceman unleashed a wicked shot over the shoulder of Silvertips goaltender Finn Werner for his second goal of the season. This end-to-end onslaught continued throughout the first period. Royals rookie Heath Nelson scored his first WHL goal on a shifty backhand move, and Everett collected two more goals at the hands of Jaxsin Vaughan and Rylan Pearce. In the final five minutes of the opening period, the Royals opted to hand the crease over to Ethan Eskit in place of Badry and finished the first frame trailing 4-2.

The Royals struck first in the second period, with Roan Woodward cashing in on the power play yet again for his seventh goal in five games and sixth power play marker of the season. Everett followed up with two goals from Matias Vanhanen and Shea Busch. The second period came to a close with the Silvertips leading 6-3.

Five minutes into the third period, Hayden Moore made an excellent effort to steal the puck from Silvertip captain Tarin Smith, finding the back of the net with a beautiful toe drag shot to bring the Royals back within two, on his fourth goal of the season. Shortly after, the Royals would go to the penalty kill after tripping up Landon DuPont and Everett would capitalize on the power play, regaining a three-goal lead. The Silvertips would not let up, adding on to their lead and claiming a final score of 9-4.
