Recap: Royals win Pre-Season Opener 3-2
Port Coquitlam, B.C. – The Victoria Royals took on the Vancouver Giants for the first game of a back-to-back series at Jon Baillie Arena to open their pre-season schedule.
Wyatt Danyleyko opened the scoring on the power play at 17:53 of the first period, assisted by Caleb Matthews. Three minutes later, Nolan Stewart gave the Royals a 2-0 lead again on the power play, assisted by Wyatt Danyleyko and Caleb Matthews, each with their second point of the game.
With two minutes remaining in the first period, Tyler Thorpe put the Giants on the board. The Royals went into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead.
Netminder Jayden Kraus took over the net at the halfway mark of the game. Ryan Tamelin finished the game with 12 saves on 13 shots. The second period would end with both teams failing to convert on powerplays, with a total of five penalties being called in the frame, and the Royals entered the second intermission holding onto the 2-1 lead.
At the 15:59 mark of the third period, the Giants tied the game at 2 when Caiden Cail deflected a shot-pass from Damian Palmieri. Three minutes later, Kash Alger-East regained the Royals lead, with an assist from Jerrett Ross.
The Royals held off the Giants late push to win the game 3-2.
The Royals’ next game is Sunday, Sept. 8 at 2pm vs. the Vancouver Giants at the Jon Baillie Arena in Port Coquitlam. The game will have an audio stream on the Victoria Royals Facebook page.
