Recap: Royals (5) @ Thunderbirds (2) – November 9th, 2024
Kent, WA – The Royals met the Thunderbirds for the first time this season on Saturday evening when the teams faced off at the accesso ShoWare Center. With two goals from Teydon Trembecky, as well as Caleb Matthews and Wyatt Danyleyko each scoring their first career WHL goals, the Royals won the game 5-2.
Caleb Matthews put the Royals up 1-0 with his first WHL goal 3:27 into the first period on a power play, assisted by Cosmo Wilson and Markus Loponen. Vaughn Watterodt added to the Royals lead at the 8:25 mark of the period with an assist from Matthew Keller. The Royals held the two-goal lead after 20 minutes of play.
The Thunderbirds cut the lead in half on a goal from Coster Dunn at 4:53 of the second period. Just over one minute later, Wyatt Danyleyko regained the two-goal lead for the Royals with his first WHL goal. Assisted by Caleb Matthews and Jacob Schwartz, it marked Schwartz’s first WHL point. Schwartz was drafted in the first round, eighth overall by the Royals in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft. The Royals led the Thunderbirds 3-1 after two periods.
Teydon Trembecky’s two quick goals, just over two minutes apart, gave the Royals a 5-1 lead. His first goal of the game came at 11:45 of the period, assisted by Cole Reschny. Just over two minutes later, Trembecky converted again, this time assisted by Hayden Moore and Seth Fryer. With 18.9 seconds to play in the game, Brayden Holberton cut the Royals’ lead to 5-2. The Royals held on to win the game 5-2 over the Thunderbirds.
