Recap: Royals (4) vs. Wheat Kings (5) – January 15th, 2025
Victoria, B.C. – The Victoria Royals were back at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre to host the Brandon Wheat Kings for their first and only meeting of the regular season.
After a scoreless first period, the Royals opened the scoring at 2:09 of the second frame with a shorthanded goal from Hayden Moore, assisted by Kenta Isogai and Justin Kipkie. The Wheat Kings answered back four minutes later with a goal from Joby Baumuller, tying the score at one. Brayden Boehm brought the Royals ahead with a power play goal at 15:02, with assists from Keaton Verhoeff and Markus Loponen, but the Wheat Kings’ Jordan Gavin netted one less than two minutes later to tie the game going into the third period.
The Royals pulled ahead just over three minutes into the third frame with a goal from Teydon Trembecky, assisted by Justin Kipkie and Nate Misskey. Brandon Lisowsky scored just before the seven-minute mark of the period, with assists from Markus Loponen and Brayden Boehm, to bring the score to 4-2, and marking his sixth goal in six games since being acquired by the Royals. The Wheat Kings cut their deficit to one at 8:20 with a goal from Marcus Nguyen, and then tied the game at four at 13:14 of the frame with a goal from Luke Shipley. In the last minute of the third period, Jaxon Jacobson scored a power play goal to bring the final score to 5-4 for the Wheat Kings.
