Recap: Royals (4) vs. Chiefs (5) – Overtime – Game 5, Round 2 – April 19th, 2025
Victoria, B.C.—Tonight, the Victoria Royals hosted the Spokane Chiefs at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre for game five of their best-of-seven series.
Reggie Newman opened the scoring for Victoria at 10:39 of the first period with Markus Loponen and Nolan Stewart assisting, giving the Royals a 1–0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
In the second period, Cole Reschny extended the Royals’ lead to two with a goal on the power play at 3:19, assisted by Kenta Isogai and Justin Kipkie. At 10:21, Shea Van Olm scored during a power play to bring the score to 2–1. Just over two minutes later, Brayden Boehm scored a power-play goal, with assists from Keaton Verhoeff and Nate Misskey, to restore a two-goal lead for Victoria. Kenta Isogai then added a goal at 18:57 with Keaton Verhoeff assisting, leaving a 4–1 Royals’ lead after two periods.
Just 1:42 into the third period, Owen Martin scored to cut the Royals’ lead back to two. Shea Van Olm then scored his second goal of the game just over one minute later at 2:58. At 16:49, Berkly Catton netted a goal to tie the game at 4–4 to force overtime.
With two seconds to play in overtime, Andrew Cristall scored the game-winning goal to leave a final score of 5-4 for the Chiefs and take a 3-2 series lead.
