Recap: Royals (4) vs. Blazers (6) – November 6th, 2024
The Royals wrapped up their four-game homestand tonight with their second consecutive divisional matchup against the Kamloops Blazers. After trading goals all night, Victoria would fall 6-4 at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.
Kamloops would be first on the board with a power play goal from Emmitt Finnie 8:36 into the first period. Four minutes later, the Royals would follow with a power play goal of their own, with Cosmo Wilson finding the back of the net with assists from Nate Misskey and Nolan Stewart. The two teams would remain knotted at one headed into the second period.
The first half of the second period would be defined by the Royals special teams. In the first four minutes, Victoria would kill nearly a minute and a half of 5-on-3 play. The power play unit would also continue to show its strength with Teydon Trembecky netting one on the one-timer at 6:18, set up by Cole Reschny and Justin Kipkie, to give the Royals the 2-1 edge. This goal would give the Royals power play a perfect night, going 2/2. At 12:03, Kamloops would respond, with John Szasbo tipping one past Spencer Michnik, bringing the game back to a tie to end the frame.
Victoria would get to work early in the third period, with Logan Pickford putting one at 2:06 of the period. Just over a minute later, the Blazers would tie it up again with Emmitt Finnie’s second goal of the night. The Royals would regain the lead 56 seconds later with a goal from Cole Reschny on a penalty shot—the first penalty shot for the Royals this season. Jordan Keller would once again knot the game with another Blazers power play goal at 8:37. Kamloops would get their first lead of the game just before the 18-minute mark of the frame with a goal from Ryan Michael, leaving the Royals trailing 5-4. The Blazers would seal the win with an empty net goal from Jordan Keller in the last 30 seconds of the third period.

The Royals are headed on an eight-game road trip, starting in Seattle for a game against the Thunderbirds this Saturday, November 9 at 6:05 p.m., before heading to Kamloops, making their way through the Alberta teams and wrapping up in Everett. The team will be back at the SOFMC for a double-header against the Thunderbirds on November 29 and 30.
