Calgary, AB – The Royals met the Calgary Hitmen for their first and only meeting of this season on Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
After a goal called back on Reggie Newman, Hayden Moore put the Royals up 1-0 at 3:06 of the first period with a power play marker assisted by Nate Misskey and Markus Loponen. Less than two minutes later, Keaton Verhoeff extended the Royals lead with the team’s second power play goal of the game, this time assisted by Markus Loponen and Cosmo Wilson. The Hitmen cut the Royals’ lead in half with a power play goal at 12:08 from Carson Wetsch. Reggie Newman restored the two-goal lead for the Royals with a goal at 17:07 of the period, assisted by Markus Loponen and Brayden Boehm. The Royals led 3-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Twelve seconds into the second period the Hitmen cut the Royals lead to one with a goal from Ben Kindel. Oliver Tulk tied the game for Calgary at 14:16 of the period, with assists from Hunter Aura and Ben Kindel. The teams were deadlocked at three after 40 minutes of play.
The Hitmen took a 4-3 lead at 0:33 of the third period on a goal from Oliver Tulk. Cole Reschny would even the score for the Royals at 2:00 of the period to force overtime, assisted by Brayden Boehm and Reggie Newman.
The Hitmen won the game 5-4 in overtime on a goal from Carter Yakemchuk.
