Red Deer, AB – The Victoria Royals met the Red Deer Rebels for this season’s first and only meeting on Saturday night at the Peavey Mart Centrium.
Beckett Hamilton put the Rebels up 1-0 with an early goal, 4:47 into the first period. Hamilton’s goal was assisted by Steven Steranka. Jaxon Fuder extended the Rebels’ lead at the 16:17 mark of the first period. Matteo Fabrizi and Luke Vlooswyk assisted Fuder’s goal. The Rebels led 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.
The Royals cut the lead in half on a goal from Hayden Moore at 14:05 of the second period, assisted by Keaton Verhoeff. Twenty-two seconds later, Rebels’ Ollie Josephson regained the two-goal lead. Caleb Matthews responded for the Royals, scoring at 17:09 of the second period. Justin Kipkie and Wyatt Danyleyko notched assists on Matthews’s goal. Markus Loponen tied the game with 46 seconds remaining in the second period, assisted by Logan Pickford and Keaton Verhoeff. The Royals and Rebels would head into the third frame tied at three a piece.
The Rebels took a 4-3 lead at 1:30 of the third period on a goal from Trae Wilke. Matthew Gard and Jhett Larson notched assists on Wilke’s goal. The Rebels added to their lead as Jaxon Fuder scored at 11:40. Matthew Gard continued, scoring again at the 13:39 mark, making it 6-3. At 14:18 of the third period, Carson Birnie scored, creating a four-goal cushion for the Rebels, 7-3.
The Red Deer Rebels won this game with a final score of 7-3.
