Prince George, B.C. — The Victoria Royals faced off against the Cougars tonight for their final regular season game.
The Cougars opened the scoring at 4:04 of the first frame with a goal from Evan Groening. Aiden Foster extended the Cougars lead to two, but less than one minute later Nolan Stewart cut their lead in half, on a goal assisted by Logan Pickford. The Cougars led 2-1 after the first period.
Aleksey Chichkin scored 1:48 into the second period to restore the Cougars’ two goal lead. At 6:53 of the frame Brandon Lisowsky scored his 40th goal of the season to cut the Cougars lead to one, assisted by Reggie Newman and Markus Loponen. The Cougars held the lead 3-2 after 40 minutes.
Keaton Verhoeff’s 21st goal of the season, coming on the power play at 1:51 of the third period tied the game at three. The teams were knotted at three after regulation.
Koehn Ziemmer scored at 2:14 of overtime to give Prince George the 4-3 win.
