Edmonton, AB – On Wednesday evening, the Royals and Oil Kings faced off for the first and only matchup of this regular season at Rogers Place in the province’s capital, Edmonton.
The Oil Kings struck first with a power-play goal from Adam Jecho at 3:37 of the first period, assisted by Gracyn Sawchyn and Gavin Hodnett. Cole Miller added to the Oil Kings’ lead at the 7:05 mark of the period with assists from Josh Mori and Miroslav Holinka. Royals’ Keaton Verhoeff cut the Oil Kings’ lead to 2-1 on a goal assisted by Markus Loponen at the 10:02 mark of the first period. The Oil Kings regained their two-goal lead as Luke Powell scored at 16:23 of the first period assisted by Landon Hanson. The Oil Kings lead the Royals 3-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Joe Iginla extended the Oil Kings’ lead to 4-1 at 7:38 of the second period. Lukas Sawchyn had the lone assist on Iginla’s goal. The remainder of the second period would go scoreless, as the Oil Kings held a 4-1 lead heading into the third frame.
In the final minute of the third period, Cole Miller scored creating a four-goal cushion for the Oil Kings, 5-1. The Edmonton Oil Kings took this game with a final score of 5-1 over the Victoria Royals.
