Recap: Royals (3) vs. Blazers (4) – Overtime – November 5th, 2024
The Victoria Royals were at home tonight for the first of two nights of divisional matchups against the Kamloops Blazers. The Royals fell 4-3 to the Blazers in overtime at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.
Reggie Newman got the Royals ahead early with a power play goal at 5:18 of the first period, assisted by Justin Kipkie and Teydon Trembecky. At 13:45, Trembecky would capitalize on the setup from Seth Fryer and Cosmo Wilson to stretch the Royals’ lead to two. The Blazers would quickly respond with a deflection goal from Harrison Brunicke at 14:25, cutting the Royals’ lead in half heading into the second frame.
The Blazers knotted the game at two with Emmitt Finnie putting one past Jayden Kraus less than 10 seconds into the frame. At around the eight minute mark, the Blazers would bounce the puck into the Royals’ net for a goal from Josh Kelly, giving Kamloops the 3-2 lead. Nolan Stewart wouldn’t let the Blazers keep their lead for long, netting a goal at 9:59 to tie the game at three. Assists on that play would come from Hayden Moore and Vaughn Watterodt, leading to Moore’s first point as a Royal.
The third frame would remain scoreless, sending the Royals to overtime for the second time in as many games.
Kamloops would secure the win in overtime with a goal from Jordan Keller at 1:32.
