Prospect Profile | Ludovic Perreault
Victoria, B.C. – The off-season excitement continued last Thursday as the Victoria Royals took part in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft. With their second pick in the first round, 18th overall, Victoria selected centerman Ludovic Perreault from the Winnipeg Bruins U15AAA.
The 15-year-old was excited to hear his name called by the Royals during Thursday’s draft.
“It’s a really great community out in Victoria, with a great facility and great organization to join,” emphasized Perreault.
The product of Winnipeg, MB. was drafted following a 2023-24 season that saw him score 67 goals, while adding 25 assists for 92 points in 32 games played. This gave Perreault league-wide recognition as he was named to the WAAA U15 First All-Star Team.
“It has been really amazing [to get to play in Winnipeg]. I love the guys that I play with and the coaches were fantastic. I couldn’t have asked for a better organization to be part of,” said Perreault.
Perreault has consistently found the back of the net over the past two seasons with the U15 Bruins, scoring 111 goals over the course of 66 combined games. Perreault noted the help of one of his brothers growing up who gave him extra opportunity to practice.
“My brother is actually a goalie, so I got to practice with him a lot over the years. We spent a lot of time together shooting pucks in the basement.”
While Perreault spent the past two seasons suiting up for the U15 Bruins, he also had the opportunity to play in one game for the U17 team during the 2023-24 season. Perreault admitted that the pace was the biggest difference between the two teams.
“It was a much higher pace throughout the entirety of the game. The skill level was also different going from U15 to U17. It was definitely a jump, but a cool experience for me.”
The 5’9” and 148 lbs. forward mentioned that while his favourite NHL team is the Montreal Canadiens, his player comparable plays for a rival of the Canadiens, being Brad Marchand.
“I would say Brad Marchand. For a couple of reasons, his level of competitiveness, his goal scoring abilities, his hockey IQ and his clutch factor.”
When asked about his playing style, Perreault described himself as “a competitor, I’m always working hard with or without the puck. I have a high level of IQ, and I have a good release of my shot.”
Moving into the off-season, and heading into his 15-year-old season, Perreault has set his sights on a few particular elements of his game that he believes can take him to the next level.
“I will be really trying to get bigger, while gaining some strength and additional speed. I also want to continue to work on my release with my shot, I just want it to get better and better.”
