Showcase Game – Victoria Royals Training Camp Presented by Cobs Bread Eagle Creek Recap
Victoria, B.C. – 2024 Training Camp presented by COBS Bread Eagle Creek wrapped up with the annual Showcase intra-squad game, where Team White and Team Blue faced off with rosters including both returning Royals players and prospects.
Team Blue got on the board first when Nolan Stewart scored at 14:31 on a falling shot as he received the puck from Daniel Morozov and Harshaan Kaila. The period would remain scoreless after Stewart’s goal, with Team Blue leading 1-0 after the first period.
The second period saw the offense increase, when the scoring kicked off with a goal from Harshaan Kaila, assisted by Morozov and Stewart to give Team Blue the 2-0 lead.
Logan Pickford would pick up a loose puck in front of the net off a Teydon Trembecky rush to add to Team Blue’s advantage, putting them up 3-0.
Cole Reschny then put Team White on the board with a highlight reel goal, dangling around the defender and finishing short side.
Harshaan Kaila would give Team Blue their three-goal lead back as a pass intended for Morozov was blocked by a skate and redirected into the Team White net.
Cruz Waltze would wire a shot home to bring Team White back within two only three minutes later.
The third period would start quickly as Teydon Trembecky scored a breakaway goal only 55 seconds into the frame, giving Team Blue a three-goal lead again, but was answered by Wyatt Danyleyko wiring a low wrist shot to bring the lead back within two goals.
Kadyn O’Brien would add to Team Blue’s tally with a quick one-time shot seven minutes into the period. The game would then be a tight contest for 10 minutes, but Nolan Stewart would add the seventh Team Blue goal of the game at 18:45 gone in the third period.
2024 WHL First Round Draft selection Ludovic Perreault would score the final goal of regulation, taking the puck swiftly down the left-hand side and burying a wrist shot with 38 seconds left in the game.
The game ended with a final score of 7-4 in favour of Team Blue. Following the final buzzer, fans were treated to a five round shootout which saw Team White win 2-1, on the back of Jack Coughlan’s and Layne Schofield’s shootout goals. Team Blue’s Kyle Marsden would score as well on a top corner wrist shot.
With training camp concluded, the Royals look ahead to the preseason, which starts Saturday, Sept. 7 vs. the Vancouver Giants in Port Coquitlam, BC.
