Ticket demand high for 2020 Memorial Cup presented by Kia
The 2019 Memorial Cup presented by Kia came to a close last night with a rematch of the QJMHL championship, the host Halifax Mooseheads faced the QMJHL Champion Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
The Mooseheads became the 11th host city in the last 15 years to reach the finals. They were looking to become the 6th team to hoist the Memorial Cup at the final buzzer, joining the 2004 Rockets.
Before puck drop, fans were scrambling to find tickets with some resold on Kijiji for as high as $500 a ticket. By the time former Mooseheads captain and Cole Harbour native Nathan MacKinnon dropped the ceremonial puck the 10,595 seat Scotia Bank Centre was filled to capacity.
In comparison, Prospera Place holds 6,286, including standing room. When Kelowna held the 2004 Memorial Cup demand was so high that fans were unable to get tickets to the games. Just like in 2004, interest in 2020 Memorial Cup tickets has already been high.
The 2020 Memorial Cup Presented by Kia will be hosted in Kelowna, BC from May 21 through May 31, 2020. The event will include eight hockey games (and potentially one tie-breaking game) as well as interactive Fan Festival Zone, Family Zone, Concert Zone, Hockey Hall of Fame Display and more throughout the community.
