Rockets 20-year-old forward Ty Hurley clears waivers
The Kelowna Rockets announced today that they have released 20-year-old forward Ty Hurley. The Sherwood Park, Alta, product cleared WHL waivers, he is now a free agent eligible to join other leagues.
“We want to thank Ty for his time with the Rockets and all of his contributions on and off the ice,” said Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
Acquired from the Seattle Thunderbirds in 2023, Hurley appeared in 69 regular season games over the last two seasons with Kelowna, recording 14 points (2G, 12A) and 27 penalty minutes.
The 5’8, 166-pound forward was drafted by the Swift Current Broncos during the 4th round (No. 84) at the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft. In total he dressed for 131 games over three seasons split between Swift Current, Seattle and Kelowna, posting 19 points (3G, 16A) and 51 penalty minutes.
Hurley was named the Rockets 2024 Humanitarian Player of the Year, awarded the Lifesaving Society, BC & Yukon Branch Silver Medal of Merit and the M.G. Griffiths Award and the Western Hockey League’s Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy as 2024 WHL Humanitarian after saving a drowning man from the team’s hotel pool while in Alberta in December 2023.
Forwards Max Graham, Luke Schelter, Michael Cicek and goaltender Jari Kykkanen are the remaining twenty-year-old players on the Rockets roster.
