RECAP: Rockets kick off busy weekend with 4-1 win over Vancouver
The Kelowna Rockets snapped their four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Vancouver Giants on Friday night at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, BC.
Carson Golder returned to the lineup after missing the Rockets last four games with an upper-body injury, the 20-year-old forward posted a pair of goals en route to earning third star-honours. Goaltender Talyn Boyko made 29 saves on 30 sh0ts.
Both teams’ speciality teams were busy. The Rockets penalty kill shut down all eight Giants power play attempts, while Kelowna was just one for six on the power play.
GAME SUMMARY
Standing in front of the net, Carson Golder (15) jammed the puck past Giants starter Jesper Vikman 69 seconds into the game.
Late in the second period, Grady Lenton (3) cruised past the Vancouver net, deflecting Jackson DeSouza’s shot to double up the Rockets lead.
Ty Thorpe (24) cut the Rockets lead in half early in the final frame, but newly named captain Gabriel Szturc (11) responded for Kelowna with a short-handed breakaway goal. Carson Golder (16) scored his second of the game, picking off the corner while on the power play.
