Job Summary
The Kelowna Rockets are seeking a dynamic and innovative person to become the team’s new Director of Communications and Social Media. The successful candidate will serve as a lead to all aspects of the team’s public relations, digital marketing, and online presence.
This full-time role is crucial in connecting the organization with its fans, media, and community through strategic communication and engaging content.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate media requests
- Manage the Rockets Hockey Canada Registry
- Create the social media marketing plan, ensuring it reflects the latest knowledge in consumer and digital marketing
- Grow and maintain Kelowna Rockets website and social media properties
- Provide analytics reporting to ensure results and learning opportunities
- Create and manage email campaigns
- Create content for website and social media (stories, interviews, videos)
- Create and print media packs, and scouts rosters for game nights
- Attend school visits and community events with players
- Manage the cms for kelownarockets.com
- Manage and facilitate online auctions
Qualifications:
- Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, content management systems and analytical tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of website management tools
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign) as well as email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp)
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Passion for sports media, with a strong understanding of hockey and if possible, the Western Hockey League
- Passion for community involvement
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and game nights
