Jake Lee invited by the San Jose Sharks again
The San Jose Sharks announced that the team has added Kelowna Rockets defenceman Jake Lee to their roster for the 2019 Anaheim Rookie Tournament, a four-day tournament September 7-10 in Irvine, CA.
Lee, a 2001 born Sherwood Park, AB native was originally drafted by the Seattle 18th overall at the 2016 Bantam Draft. In 135 regular-season games with the Thunderbirds the 6’2, 216-pound defenceman has 34 points (7G, 27A). This past season he posted a career-best 24 points (3G, 21A) in 67 games.
Fellow teammate Dillon Hamaliuk will join Lee. Hamaliuk was drafted 55th overall by the Sharks at the 2019 NHL Draft on June 22 in Vancouver, BC.
Both Lee and Hamaliuk were acquired from the Seattle Thunderbirds in a blockbuster trade during the 2019 WHL Bantam draft.
The duo could faceoff against fellow Rocket Kaedan Korczak as the Sharks will face the Vegas Golden Knights along with the Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche and the Los Angeles Kings.
Each team will play three full games during the round-robin event, facing a different opponent each time. The Sharks will take on the Coyotes on Saturday, Sept. 7, followed by the Ducks on Sunday, Sept. 8, and will finish with the Kings on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Lee isn’t the only Rocket who has been invited by an NHL team to put their talents on display. The Carolina Hurricanes added forwards Kyle Topping and Leif Mattson to the team’s roster for the 2019 NHL Prospects Showcase. That event takes place from Sept. 7-10 at Ford Ice Center Antioch in Nashville. Nolan Foote will also be in attendance at that tournament with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
