DRAFT PROFILE: Dawson Gerwing
Kelowna, B.C. – With the 2025 NHL Entry Draft just around the corner, Rockets forward Dawson Gerwing is among several draft-eligible prospects from Kelowna who have drawn attention from NHL scouts this season.
Gerwing, a 6-foot-4, 231-pound left-shot forward from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, brings size, strength, and a physical presence to the forward group. His ability to protect the puck, battle down low, and generate offence in tight spaces has made him a valuable piece in the Rockets’ second-half push.
Gerwing was acquired by the Rockets midway through the 2024–25 season in a trade with the Swift Current Broncos that saw defenseman Marek Rocak head the other way. The move gave Kelowna a true power forward with an imposing frame and room to grow his offensive game.
In 2024–25, Gerwing posted the following totals:
-
27 games with Swift Current: 6 goals, 4 assists (10 points)
-
31 games with Kelowna: 9 goals, 9 assists (18 points)
-
Season total: 58 games, 15 goals, 13 assists (28 points)
Known for his heavy shot and net-front ability, Gerwing also contributed significantly on the forecheck and in board battles, adding grit to Kelowna’s lineup. His physical style and willingness to play hard minutes have drawn praise from coaches and scouts alike.
Gerwing enters the 2025 NHL Draft ranked
-
#99 by NHL Central Scouting (North American Skaters)
-
#196 by Draft Prospects Hockey
Gerwing’s combination of size and compete level makes him a strong candidate as a late-round value pick.
As he continues to develop his pace and puck skills, Gerwing offers long-term upside as a bottom-six power forward who can kill penalties, play with edge, and chip in timely offensively.
