Cardinal Sport Preview: Rockets prepare for battle against Cougars and Giants
The Kelowna Rockets will continue a busy month of January with another pair of games against rivals from the B.C. Division. The Rockets will welcome the Prince George Cougars to Prospera Place on Friday, January 10th before heading on the road to Vancouver to take on the Giants.
COUGARS
Prince George will take on Vancouver twice on January 7 and 8 before coming to Kelowna for the third time this season.
GIANTS
Following the Giants victory over Kelowna they travelled to Prince George to play the Cougars twice before heading to Kamloops on January 10th. Vancouver will then host Kelowna for the second time this season.
ROCKETS ROSTER AND INJURY UPDATE
The WHL Trade Deadline and come and gone with the Rockets being very active in preparation for next year’s Memorial Cup. The Rockets moved defenceman Caden Price to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for defenceman Will Sharpe, the rights to goaltender Harrison Boettiger along with five draft picks. Andrew Cristall was also moved, traded to the Spokane Chiefs for forward Hayden Paupanekis along with five draft picks which included two first round picks. The Rockets then acquired 2006-born forward Dawson Gerwing from the Swift Current Broncos.
The Rockets wrapped up the deadline with a pair of deals with the Everett Silvertips. The Rockets acquired a seventh round pick in exchange for defenceman Landon Cowper before closing out the deadline by acquiring forward Andrew Petruk for a ninth round selection in 2025.
ROCKETS TO WATCH
- Kanjyu Gojsic is the Rockets rookie scoring leader with six goals, eight assists and 14 points.
- Kayden Longley has already surpassed his previous career high of 14 points as he now has 21 points in 35 games, but the Wainwright, Alberta native is one goal shy of tying his previous career best of seven.
COUGAR TO WATCH
- Villiam Kmec had two goals and an assist the last meeting between the Rockets and Cougars.
GIANT TO WATCH
- Adam Titlebach opened the scoring between the two clubs last week and added another later in the game.
THE LAST TIME THESE TWO MET
VS PG
Kelowna and Prince George last met in a 5-3 victory for the Cougars on December 17, the final game before the holiday break. Villiam Kmec scored twice including the game winner in the third period to give the Cougars the victory.
VS VAN
Vancouver took the most recent meeting which took place less than a week ago, with the Giants coming away with a 7-0 victory over Kelowna at Prospera Place. Adam Titlbach scored twice while Burke Hood made 44 saves for the victory.
