WEEKEND WOES
The Rockets losing streak grew to four games after dropping back-to-back games on home ice over the weekend.
Kelowna fell 2-1 to the Victoria Royals on Friday. Scoreless through the first period, the Royals took a 2-0 lead into the third period. With time ticking away, Andrew Cristall was able to get the Rockets on the board with 44 seconds to play in the game.
On Saturday, the Red Deer Rebels dropped the Rockets 3-1. Tied at one after one, the Rebels power play struck in the second and third period to secure their victory. Caden Price scored the lone goal for the Rockets, while Rookie netminder Jake Pilon was named the game’s third star after stopping 36 saves on 39 shots.
AMS ONE-GAME WEEKEND
The Tri-City Americans extended their win streak to two games with a 4-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday on home ice, it was their lone game of the weekend.
THE LAST TIME THESE TWO MET
The Rockets claimed the first win in the five-game season series with a 4-3 shootout victory on October 21.
Scoreless after one, the two traded goals in the middle period before Kelowna took the lead into the second intermission. A power play goal pushed Kelowna out to a two-goal lead early into the third period, but Tri-City responded with their own power play goal and another in the final minutes to force the game into overtime.
The two headed to a shootout following five minutes of overtime. Tij Iginla and Andrew Cristall were successful shooters for Kelowna in the shootout, where Jari Kykkanen only allowed one goal on three shots.
