Rockets Vojtech Cihar named 2026 World Juniors MVP
KELOWNA, BC — The Kelowna Rockets were proudly represented on the international stage at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, with Vojtech Cihar, Tomas Poletin, and Tij Iginla all playing key roles for their respective countries and returning home with medals.
Representing Czechia, forwards Vojtech Cihar and Tomas Poletin captured silver medals, finishing as runners-up after a hard-fought 4–2 loss to Sweden in the gold medal game. Cihar delivered a dominant tournament performance, recording 12 points (4G, 8A) in the event. His standout play earned him tournament MVP honours and a spot on the World Junior All-Star Team, as chosen by the media. Poletin also made a strong impact for Czechia, contributing six points (4G, 2A) throughout the tournament and the game-winning goal in the semi-final matchup against Canada to send Czechia to the gold medal game.
Forward Tij Iginla helped Team Canada secure the bronze medal, defeating Finland 6–3 in the third-place game. Iginla posted eight points (4G, 4A) during the tournament, providing timely scoring and energy for Canada in key moments.
Cihar, Poletin, and Iginla are expected to return to Kelowna in the coming days and could be available as early as Wednesday, when the Rockets host the Tri-City Americans at Prospera Place.
