Dawson Gerwing is not a subtle player. The 19-year-old power forward from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, stands 6’4″ and 231 pounds, plays in the game’s hardest real estate every shift, and has drawn the attention of NHL organizations because of it.
Gerwing posted 24 points (11G, 13A) with 127 penalty minutes across 63 regular season games in 2025–26, adding two goals in nine playoff appearances and suiting up for all three of the Rockets’ Memorial Cup games. His value goes well beyond the point totals. He drives to the net, wins board battles, applies relentless pressure on opposing defencemen in the offensive zone, and makes the team around him genuinely harder to play against. Neutral Zone Scouting described him as a player who “excels in his role as a net-front presence, consistently bringing energy and compete to every shift,” with the ability to “leverage his size and speed to deliver punishing hits when in stride.”
For a player his size, he moves well, effective in the forecheck, capable of getting to the right spots, and physical enough to stay there once he arrives.
This is also not Gerwing’s first appearance on the NHL radar. NHL Central Scouting ranked him 99th among North American skaters ahead of the 2025 Draft. Following 2024–25, the Los Angeles Kings invited him to their Development Camp. He impressed enough to earn a return invitation to their Rookie Camp alongside Rockets teammate Nate Corbet.
