[{"id":30110,"date":"2026-06-25T17:53:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T17:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chl.ca\/whl-rebels\/?p=30110"},"modified":"2026-06-25T17:54:56","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T17:54:56","slug":"30110-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chl.ca\/whl-rebels\/article\/30110-2","title":{"rendered":"Long list of Rebels eligible for this weekend&#8217;s NHL Draft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Being one of the youngest teams in the Western Hockey League last season means a whopping 15 current Red Deer Rebels are eligible to have their name called at the 2026 NHL Draft this weekend in Buffalo, New York.<\/p>\n<p>The group is led by four players included in the NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beckett Hamilton (Forward, \u201908 \u2013 Saskatoon, SK)<\/strong> \u2013 33<sup>rd<\/sup> North American Skaters<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cameron Kuzma (Forward, \u201908 \u2013 St. Albert, AB)<\/strong> \u2013 116<sup>th<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kalder Varga (Forward, \u201908 \u2013 Geneva, IL, USA)<\/strong> \u2013 122<sup>nd<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jiri Kamas (Defence, \u201908 \u2013 Plze\u0148, Czechia)<\/strong> \u2013 134<sup>th<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Hamilton led the Rebels with 62 points in 67 games in 2025-26 and was the club\u2019s Most Valuable Player. He had an assist in the WHL Prospects Game in February and played for Canada at the 2026 IIHF U18 Men\u2019s World Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Kuzma posted 21 points in 34 games with the Rebels after he was acquired on January 2 via trade from the Seattle Thunderbirds.<\/p>\n<p>Varga was acquired from the Kelowna Rockets on January 2 and went on to record 26 points, including 13 goals, in 34 games with the Rebels. He won gold with USA at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Kamas joined the Rebels through a trade from the Penticton Vees on January 8 and posted seven points in 32 games. He had two points in five playoff games. Kamas played for Czechia at the U18 Men\u2019s World Championship.<\/p>\n<p>The long list of draft eligible Rebels also includes\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poul Andersen (Forward, \u201807 \u2013 St. Louis Park, MN, USA)<\/strong> \u2013 After joining the Rebels midseason in a trade from Edmonton, Andersen netted 14 goals and 30 points in 36 games and was named as the club\u2019s Most Underrated Player.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Noah Chadi (Defence, \u201808 \u2013 Edmonton, AB)<\/strong> \u2013 Signed with the Rebels midseason from Grande Prairie (AJHL) and had three points in 33 games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Owen DeWitt (Forward, \u201807 \u2013 Sicamous, BC)<\/strong> \u2013 Joined the Rebels in November from Camrose (AJHL)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cameron Dillard (Defence, \u201808 \u2013 Flower Mound, TX, USA)<\/strong> \u2013 Played in 13 regular season games with the Rebels after being acquired from the Everett Silvertips and had three points in five playoff games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew Kondro (Goaltender, \u201907 \u2013 St. Albert, AB)<\/strong> \u2013 Joined the Rebels full-time after beginning the season with Lloydminster (AJHL) and recorded 19 wins with a 3.49 goals against average and .892 save percentage. Kondro was named the Rebels Pattison Media Rookie of the Year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matus Lisy (Defence, \u201807 \u2013 Bratislava, Slovakia)<\/strong> \u2013 22 points in 62 games in his first season of North American hockey. Lisy played for Slovakia at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Landon MacSwain (Forward, \u201807 \u2013 Anchorage, AK, USA)<\/strong> \u2013 The big rookie recorded 12 goals and 24 points in 62 games and led the Rebels with a +6 plus\/minus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jake Missura (Defence, \u201808 \u2013 Saskatoon, SK)<\/strong> \u2013 Recorded six points in his second year with the Rebels and was the only player to dress in all 68 of the club\u2019s regular season games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peyton Shore (Goaltender, \u201907 \u2013 Winnipeg, MB)<\/strong> \u2013 In his second season with the Rebels Shore appeared in 21 games and posted a 4.71 goals against average and .859 save percentage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Patrick Sopiarz (Forward, \u201808 \u2013 Edmonton, AB)<\/strong> \u2013 Acquired from the Prince George Cougars in December, Sopiarz played 39 games with the Rebels, collecting 19 points, and had two points in five playoff games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cole Temple (Forward, \u201807 \u2013 Brandon, MB)<\/strong> \u2013 Temple was limited to 16 games with the Rebels due to injury and posted nine points after being acquired from Everett. He added 13 points in 20 playoff games<\/p>\n<p>Tarzwell also enjoyed a five-year career in the WHL from 2017-21. He joined the Rebels midway through the 2017-18 season in a trade from Lethbridge and went on to post 91 points (57 goals, 43 assists) in 187 games with his hometown club. His finest season came in 2019-20 when he potted 32 goals in 63 games. Overall, he totalled 110 points in 253 games with the Rebels and Hurricanes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019ve been told the fans in Glasgow are terrific and that it\u2019s a great city to live in. I\u2019ll bring my work ethic and a high level of care night in and night out. He added eight points in 15 playoff tilts. Johnson was the club\u2019s captain during his final season in 2018-19, scoring 27 goals and 53 points.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson signed an entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in March 2019 and shortly after made his professional debut with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. Johnson made his NHL debut in the 2020-21 season when he played five games with the Blackhawks. He remained with the Blackhawks organization through 2024, suiting up for 141 NHL games and recording 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists). In 2024-25 Johnson signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Wild and spent most of the season playing for their AHL affiliate in Iowa before being traded to the Marlies.<\/p>\n<p>King, who is 24, had four points in 20 games this season with the Marlies after joining the club midseason. He played for the Rebels from 2019-2023 and racked up 206 points (97 goals, 109 assists) in 165 games. He added 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 20 playoff games. King ranks sixth in goals and ninth in points in team history and is one of just six Rebels players to score 50 or more goals in a season. The Vernon, BC native was as finalist for WHL Player of the Year in 2021-22 after leading the league with 52 goals.<\/p>\n<p>King has played 145 career AHL games with San Diego, Manitoba, and Toronto, compiling 60 points.
