Rebels Begin Pre-Season With A 5-2 Loss to Edmonton
ST. ALBERT – The Red Deer Rebels opened the pre-season with a 5-2 loss against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Dawson Weatherill got the start in the Rebels net and went the distance, making 29 saves.
The game was scoreless after the first period.
The Oil Kings opened the scoring on a goal from Colton Kehler, 4:43 into the second period. Edmonton increased their lead to 2-0 when Kyle Yewchuk scored at 14:41. Just 44 seconds later, Lane Bauer made it 3-0 for Edmonton. That was the score after 2 periods. The Rebels Grayson Pawlenchuk was given a penalty shot in the second period but rang it off the post.
In the third, the Rebels cut the lead to 3-1 on a goal from Akash Bains. The Oil Kings got it to 4-1 with a Brandon Ralph marker. The Rebels closed the gap to 4-2 on a goal from Adam Musil, Edmonton added an empty net goal from Garan Magnes to close out the scoring.
The Oil Kings out-shot the Rebels 34-25. Red Deer was 0 for 3 on the power play; the Oil Kings were 1 for 3.
The Rebels will continue the pre-season with a game Friday in Kennewick, WA when they participate in the Tri-City Americans tournament.
