Third period rally earns Rebels a point in Calgary
CALGARY – The Rebels headed down the QEII to the Scotiabank Saddledome for the first time this season looking to bounce back against the Calgary Hitmen after a 2-1 loss to them last Saturday at the Marchant Crane Centrium.
Red Deer started slow, but found their legs in the third period to overcome a pair of two-goal deficits to push the game to overtime before an eventual 4-3 shootout loss.
The Rebels fall to 4-9-0-2 on the season but have now earned points in four of their last five games.
Stats Story:
Jaxon Fuder (RD) – 1 goal, 1 assist
Samuel Drancak (RD) – 1 goal, 1 assist
Keith McInnis (RD) – 1 goal
Matthew Kondro (RD) – 32/35 saves
Luc Trevors (CGY) – 1st WHL goal
How it Happened:
Calgary opened the scoring two minutes into the first period when Luc Trevors was able to knock home his first WHL goal on a rebound from the low slot after a sharp-angle shot was stopped by Rebels netminder Matthew Kondro.
The Hitmen doubled their lead 8:23 into the second period as Ben MacBeath snapped a shot from the top of the faceoff circle, beating Kondro for his third of the season.
Samuel Drancak provided the first goal of the night for the Rebels eight minutes into the third period, as he knocked a rebound in from the top of the crease, after Hitmen goaltender Aida Hesse couldn’t control a point shot from Ty Coupland.
Calgary came right back to make it a 3-1 game just three minutes later. A scramble in front of Kondro left him out of the crease, allowing Wyatt Pisarcyzk to score his first of the season into an open net.
Jaxon Fuder responded just 23 seconds after that for the Rebels, as he took a Ty Coupland pass from behind the net, and was able to catch Hesse out of position to bury it for his third of the season.
With the Rebels net empty Keith McInnis forced overtime as he faked out Hesse on a breakaway with 33 seconds left to tie it 3-3.

Neither team found the back of the net during the five-minute overtime period resulting in a shootout where Calgary scored on all three of its attempts, while only Jaxon Fuder found the twine for Red Deer.
Both Calgary and Red Deer were 0-for-2 on the man advantage. Kondro made 32 saves in the crease for the Rebels, while Hesse made 19 for the Hitmen.
