Roster Update – Jan. 28
One of the Red Deer Rebels’ top prospects is set to make his WHL debut in his home province.
Defenceman Graeme Pickering has been called up as an affiliated player and is slated to be in the lineup Wednesday night when the Rebels battle the Brandon Wheat Kings at Westoba Place.
Pickering, from St. Adolphe, Manitoba, was selected by the Rebels in the first round, 15th overall at last year’s WHL Prospects Draft. This season with RHA Winnipeg U18 (CSSHL) he has 17 points (5 goals, 12 assists) in 20 games and was a tournament all-star at the 2024 WHL Cup in Red Deer.
The Rebels have also recalled forward Noah Milford (’09, Okotoks AB) from Calgary International Hockey Academy U18 (CSSHL) for this week’s road trip. Milford made his WHL debut with the Rebels on January 11 versus Prince Albert. Milford has 39 points in 26 games this season with Calgary IHA, including a seven-point game (5 goals, 2 assists) on October 27.
In other roster news, forward Jaxon Fuder (’06, Cold Lake AB) is out 6-8 weeks with an upper body injury suffered last Saturday, January 25 versus Moose Jaw. Fuder is listed as ‘indefinite’ on this week’s WHL injury report.
Defenceman Jace Weir (’04, Coldstream BC) also suffered an upper body injury versus Moose Jaw and is listed ‘week-to-week.’
Forwards Ollie Josephson (’06, Victoria BC) and Kalan Lind (’05, Shaunavon SK) remain listed as ‘day-to-day.’
Defenceman Keaton Dowhaniuk (’04, Sherwood Park AB) has been suspended one game for a cross-checking major penalty and game misconduct January 26 versus Calgary.
