How it Happened
Calgary grabbed the early momentum on the powerplay as Hunter Aura fired a point shot that was deftly tipped home by Kale Dach, slipping past Rebels netminder Matthew Kondro.
The Hitmen kept pressing, and Andrei Molgachev pounced on a loose puck in the crease to extend the lead. Calgary’s powerplay then went to work again late in the opening frame, with Brandon Gorzynski cashing in to make it a three-goal advantage after 20 minutes.
Peyton Shore took over between the pipes to start the second period. The ice continued to tilt Calgary’s way as Dach struck again on the powerplay, notching his second of the evening.
The Hitmen showed no signs of slowing down in the third. Koy Funk opened the scoring, followed by a powerplay marker from Ethan Moore, before Luc Trevors added to the tally and Axel Hurtig converted on the powerplay. Kondro returned to the crease with just over four minutes remaining, but Trevors capped his night with his second goal of the game to seal the 9-0 final.
Kondro faced 12 shots, while Shore saw 13. At the other end, the Rebels generated 26 shots but couldn’t solve Calgary goaltender Eric Tu.
Red Deer came up empty on two powerplay opportunities, while Calgary converted five times on eight chances with the man advantage.
