Rebels playoff hopes end in overtime loss to Raiders
Playoff hopes for the Red Deer Rebels came to a heartbreaking end Friday night with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Prince Albert Raiders at the Centrium.
Aiden Oiring’s hat trick goal late in extra time officially ended any chances for the Rebels to catch the Swift Current Broncos for the final playoff spot in the WHL Eastern Conference.
STATS STORY
Aiden Oiring (PA) – 3 goals
Jaxon Fuder and Gleb Semenov (RD) – 1 goal, 1 assist
Tomas Mrsic and Daxon Rudolph (PA) – 2 assists
HOW IT HAPPENED
Prince Albert’s number two ranked power play opened the scoring less than four minutes into the game as Oiring buried a rebound off the post past Rebels netminder Peyton Shore.
The Rebels took things over for the next 10 minutes starting when Jaxon Fuder scored on Red Deer’s first shot of the game at the 8:59 mark. It was Fuder’s second goal in as many games and 11th of the season.

Gleb Semenov made it 2-0 when he crashed the crease and banged home his second goal of the season past Raiders goalie Dimitri Fortin.

Just 96 seconds later, Kalan Lind took a Semenov pass and drove the net for his 11th goal of the year and a 3-1 Rebels lead.

Unfortunately, Niall Crocker tipped home a power play goal just over a minute later to make it 3-2. And a little over two minutes later, Oiring scored shorthanded to make it a tie game through 20 minutes.
Neither side scored in periods two or three sending the game to overtime.
Much of the extra period was played four-on-four after the Rebels came up empty on a power play. When play reverted to three-on-three and with less than a minute left in overtime, Oiring pounced on a Rebels turnover and outwaited Shore to bury the game winner.
Red Deer outshot Prince Albert 29-25 but went 0-for-5 on the power play while Prince Albert was 2-for-3 and also scored shorthanded.
