Rebels edged by Broncos in homestand finale
A vastly improved effort came up agonizingly short for the Red Deer Rebels as they were edged 3-2 by the Swift Current Broncos Saturday at the Centrium.
The game marked the end of Red Deer’s lengthy eight-game homestand and brought Swift Current within one point of clinching the final playoff spot in the WHL Eastern Conference.
STATS STORY
Luke Mistelbacher (SC) – 1 goal, 1 assist
Clarke Caswell (SC) – 2 assists

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first period, Red Deer managed to strike first in the second with Nishaan Parmar’s rebound goal – his first goal with the Rebels – giving his club a 1-0 lead.

Swift Current responded just 19 seconds as Brady Birnie put a cross-crease pass past Shore for a 1-1 score.
Less than five minutes later, Trae Wilke found a loose puck and scored for a 2-1 Broncos lead that would last into the third period.
2:16 into the final frame, a scramble from an offensive zone face-off gave Beckett Hamilton a shooting chance from the top of the circle, and the rookie made no mistake, picking the top corner to level the score at 2-2. Hamilton now has 14 goals on the season.
