Rebels downed 5-1 in Calgary
The Red Deer Rebels fell 5-1 in the first of a back-to-back series with the Calgary Hitmen Wednesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Samuel Drancak scored Red Deer’s only goal on a third period power play after Calgary had already built a five-goal lead.
Red Deer and Calgary meet again Saturday at the Centrium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Calgary opened the scoring just over one minute into the game as Carson Birnie went cross-ice to Carson Wetsch who tipped the puck past Rebels netminder Peyton Shore.
At the 5:33 mark, Hunter Aura’s wrister got through traffic for a 2-0 Hitmen lead.
Into the second, Brandon Gorzynski waited on Shore’s doorstep for a pass from Connor Hvidston to extend the lead.
Goals four and five came 46 seconds apart as the Hitmen capitalized on a two-man advantage courtesy of Sawyer Mynio and Ethan Moore.
Red Deer’s only goal came 11:25 into the third as Talon Brigley connected with Samuel Drancak on the power play to crack Hauser’s shutout bid.

Calgary outshot Red Deer 30-22 and was 2-for-4 on the power play while the Rebels were 1-for-4.

Out of the line-up for the Rebels were Parker MacDougall, Nishaan Parmar, Dmitri Toporowski and Jack Bousquet … Jaxon Fuder and Kalan Lind left the game in the first period and would not return … Hauser earned his 123rd career win to set a new WHL record … attendance at the Scotiabank Saddledome was 2,573.
