League leading Silvertips pull away late for 6-1 win over Rebels
It took just over two minutes late in the third period for a close game to be flown out of reach for the Red Deer Rebels Monday night.
The final score read 6-1 as the Rebels fell to the WHL leading Silvertips at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Washington.
Everett exploded for three goals in a 2:18 span late in the final frame to improve to 15-3-1-0 on the season and drop the Rebels to 9-8-1-0, and to 0-3 thus far on their U.S. road trip
STATS STORY:
Dominik Rymon (EVT) – 4 assists
Carter Bear (EVT) – 2 goals, 1 assist
Ollie Josephson (RD) – 1 goal
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Everett capitalized on their first powerplay opportunity as Carter Bear beat Chase Wutzke five-hole for his 14th goal of the season.
Late in the opening period with the Rebels shorthanded, Captain Ollie Josephson stepped up to intercept a drop-pass in the neutral zone gaining space for a breakaway. Patiently waiting for Everett’s goaltender, Jesse Sanche to bite, Josephson had his number, going low glove side to make it 1-1.

Sixteen seconds into the second period, Sanche, came out to play the puck in the corner. In an effort to return to his crease, Sanche made a diving play but was unable to return to his feet. He would leave the game to be replaced by back-up, Alex Garrett.
On the powerplay once again, Bear tipped home a Tarin Smith point shot for his second tally on the night and a 2-1 Everett lead.
Later in the second period, Everett, fresh off the powerplay, controlled the momentum in the Rebels end. Kaden Hammell found Red Deer native Tyler MacKenzie in front of the net, who tucked it behind Wutzke’s skate to make it 3-1 through 40 minutes.
The Rebels kept pushing in a bid to narrow their deficit in the third. Then the final five minutes happened.
Everett’s highly touted 15-year-old rookie, Landon DuPont, who made his return to Everett’s line-up Monday night following a silver medal finish at the World Under-17 Challenge, tapped home a puck that took a fortuitous bounce for him, and horrific for the Rebels, off the boards and out front for a tap-in goal to make it 4-1.
On the very next shift, Caine Wilke (brother to Red Deer’s Trae Wilke) found Caden Brown on the wing for Everett’s fifth goal.
Everett’s Tarin Smith would bring the scoring to a close on a tape-to-tape pass from Dominik Rymon. The assist marked Rymon’s fourth of the night.
Wutzke played his 15th game of the season, stopping 27 shots, while Everett’s Garrett earned the win denying 21 shots in his relief appearance.
