Jhett-fuelled Rebels fly back into win column
The long awaited return of a veteran leader helped lead the Red Deer Rebels to a long awaited win.
Jhett Larson opened the scoring and added an assist in a 5-1 win Rebels victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors in front of 5,523 raucous fans at the Peavey Mart Centrium.
The Rebels earned their first win of 2025 and ended their 13-game winless skid.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After an early Moose Jaw’s power play was stifled by Red Deer’s penalty kill, the Rebels went to work with Larson scoring on a rebound in his return from missing 20 games to a broken arm.

A double minor for high-sticking to Moose Jaw gave Red Deer a chunk of time to work of their own man advantage, which they’d capitalize on. Matthew Gard from in tight buried his tenth of the season, finishing off a rebound in the crease after Larson had been denied by Josh Banini with a great initial save.
In the dying seconds of the period, Brett Calhoon grabbed a rebound behind the Moose Jaw net and tucked in a wraparound. The goal needed video review to verify, but it gave the Rebels a three-goal lead through 20 minutes.
The teams played through a goalless second period.
Derek Thurston ran the lead to 4-0 in the third period with an absolute sizzler from the left point for his fifth goal of the season.

Beckett Hamilton took a pass down low from Nolan Schmidt and sent the puck top shelf past Banini for his 10th goal of the year.
Ethan Semeniuk spoiled Chase Wutzke’s bid with 9.1 seconds left to play for a power play goal for Moose Jaw.
