Four Rebels prospects named to WHL Cup rosters
Four Red Deer Rebels prospects have been named to rosters for the 2023 WHL Cup presented by FPS Payment, Wednesday through Sunday (October 18-22) at the Peavey Mart Centrium.
The WHL Cup presented by FPS Payment features teams from the four Western Canadian provinces competing in a round-robin tournament format followed by playoffs. The 2023 WHL Cup will showcase the top 2008-born players from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
All four Rebels prospects taking part in the tournament were also the club’s top four picks at the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft in May.
Beckett Hamilton, Forward, Team Saskatchewan – The Saskatoon native was selected by the Rebels in round one, 18th overall at the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft after piling up 83 points in 29 regular season games in 2022-23 with the Humboldt Broncos U15 AA. He added 33 points in nine playoff games. Hamilton has 10 points in five games this season with the Warman Wildcats U18 AAA and scored one goal for the Rebels during preseason play in September.
Jake Missura, Defence, Team Saskatchewan – Missura was selected by the Rebels in round two, 40th overall at this year’s draft. Also from Saskatoon, the hard-hitting blue liner had 25 points in 26 games with the Saskatoon Bandits U15 AA this past season, along with 100 penalty minutes. Missura has yet to play for the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA this season due to injury.
Nickolas Kovich, Forward, Team BC – The Rebels selected Kovich with the 75th overall pick in round four of this year’s WHL Prospects Draft. From Richmond, BC, Kovich collected 36 points (17 goals, 19 assists) in 21 games for Delta Hockey Academy U15 Prep and has four points in three games with Delta’s U18 Prep team this season.
Peyton Shore, Goaltender, Team Manitoba – Shore was selected by the Rebels in round five, 100th overall at this year’s draft. With RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg U15 last season, Shore recorded a 4.20 goals against average and .879 save percentage in the regular season. In the playoffs he was 1.96 and .936.
Hamilton, Missura and Kovich has signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Rebels.
