Effort outweighs outcome as Rebels fall in Edmonton
EDMONTON – The score didn’t quite tell the tale Friday night, as the Red Deer Rebels fell 4-1 to the powerhouse Edmonton Oil Kings, owners of the second-best record in the WHL, but not without making them earn every inch of ice.
Captain Talon Brigley delivered the lone Rebels goal. Between the pipes, Peyton Shore turned in another gutsy performance, flashing the leather and standing tall through heavy pressure to keep his team within striking distance.
Red Deer sits 10-13-1-2 as they return home to take on Prince Albert on Saturday.
Stats Story
Landon Hanson, Andrew O’Neill (EDM) – 2 goals
Kanjyu Gojsic (EDM) – 2 assist
Talon Brigley (RD) – 1 goal
How it Happened
The Oil Kings were the first to break through with Landon Hanson sneaking a shot past Peyton Shore’s short side.
The Rebels answered with some shorthanded magic in the second as Talon Brigley beat everyone to a Keith McInnis dump-in that ricocheted off the end boards, snapping the puck high over Parker Snell’s shoulder to even the game 1-1.

Just 35 seconds later, however, Andrew O’Neill put home a one-timer to restore Edmonton’s lead.
Hanson added his second of the night late in the third, tucking home a rebound amid chaos as an Oil Kings forward was knocked into Shore knocking him out of position. O’Neill sealed things with an empty-netter in the final minutes.
Shore turned aside 25 shots to keep the Rebels within reach all night long. Snell made 24 saves for Edmonton.

Red Deer’s penalty killers had a great night in going 7-for-7 to go along with Brigley’s shorthanded tally – the club’s first of the season. The Rebels power play was held to 0-for-4.
