Arshdeep Bains scores 1st NHL goal for Canucks
It was an incredibly special moment Saturday night for Arshdeep Bains.
The former Red Deer Rebels scoring leader netted his first goal in the National Hockey League in front of his hometown fans as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3.
Bains’ second period tally stood up as the game winner, earning him first star honours on the night. He received a raucous standing ovation from Canucks fans following his goal.

Bains joined the Rebels as a listed player in November 2017 and went on to play 257 regular season games with the team, compiling 209 points (sixth-most in team history). His 132 career assists are fifth-most in Rebels history.
During his final season with the Rebels in 2021-22 he won the WHL scoring title with 112 points. He signed with the Canucks as a free agent in March 2022 and made his NHL debut with them in February 2024. He has since played 12 games with Vancouver.

Bains has 93 points in 125 games with the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League and was named 2024 AHL All-Star Game MVP.
