2020 draft pick Carson Birnie signs with Rebels
The Red Deer Rebels are excited to announce that forward Carson Birnie (’05) has signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the club.
Birnie was selected by the Rebels in the eighth round, 160th overall at the 2020 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft.
A native of Arcola, SK, Birnie racked up 67 points in 29 games with the Regina Monarchs U15 AA in 2019-20 prior to being drafted by the Rebels. In 2021-22 with the Estevan Bears U18 AAA squad he netted 35 points and had 68 penalty minutes in 43 games played.
“Carson has continued to make positive strides in his development since being a late-round pick and we like the mind set he possesses as a player to continue trending that way,” says Rebels Associate General Manager Shaun Sutter. “We believe his size, compete and skill set will allow him to be an effective two-way player in the WHL.”
