Team White dismantles Team Green 8-4 to end training camp
A total of 12 goals were scored during Monday’s Green vs White game, with Team White emerging as victors by an 8-4 final. Riley Boychuk led the way for White, tallying four points, while Brayden Dube scored twice for Green.
In the opening minute of the contest, Dube gathered a loose puck and broke into the White zone on a breakaway. The 19-year-old slipped a shot five hole past Steele Bass to put Green up 1-0.
With 1:06 left in the opening frame, Ben Harvey tied the game up for White. Kyle Obobaifo led a rush into Green’s end, and fed a cross crease pass to Harvey, who fired a low shot home past Cooper Anderson.
After 20 minutes, it was a 1-1 deadlock.
23 seconds into the second period, White grabbed their first lead of the game. Skating down the right wing, Boychuk fired a hard shot over the pad and under Anderson’s glove. His first point of the game gave White a 2-1 lead.
Dube responded for Green, tying the game up with 16:15 left in the middle frame. After a shot from Ty Munier was stopped, Dube controlled the rebound and took a shoot between the legs that found the back of the net. The pretty goal made it a 2-2 game.
After a faceoff win in the offensive zone, White quickly regained the lead, as Tyler Wamboldt made it a 3-2 game. Right off the draw Luke Moroz grabbed the puck from Harrison Lodewyk, but it ended up on Wamboldt’s stick after a couple of bounces. The winger flipped a backhand shot on goal that snuck past Anderson, putting White back on top by one. 3-2 would be the score heading into the third period.
Another quick goal was scored to start a period, as Cole Peardon found the back of the net 19 seconds into the third. From his own end Ryland Molde sent a sky high flip pass down the ice, and it was tracked down by Meunier. Entering the offensive zone, the 2023 first round pick circled back near the half wall and found Peardon streaking towards the net. Peardon took a pass from Meunier and sniped a bullet top corner past Jaden Blanchette who took over in goal in the second period. Peardon’s marker tied up the score at 3-3.
From there, White went on a tear, scoring the next four goals. Luke Moroz gave White another lead, as he sniped a shot from the slot blocker side past Chase Kettles, making it a 4-3 game. Shortly after, 2023 first overall pick Daxon Rudolph and 2023 second overall pick Boychuk connected for a goal. From the right wall, Boychuk slipped a pass to Rudolph, who dipsy-doodled around a Green defenceman, walked in and fired a shot home, giving White a 5-3 lead, the first two goal lead of the game for either team.
With 15:53 left in the third, Boychuk was sprung on a breakaway for White, and he made no mistake, deking before firing a forehand shot past Kettles to make it a 6-3 game. Less than a minute later, Obobaifo set up Connor Howe for a goal to make it 7-3. From the goal line, Obobaifo found Howe wide open in the slot, and the Prince Albert product fired one blocker side past Kettles to make it a four goal game.
Jonah Sivertson cut into the lead for Green, scoring to make it a 7-4 game. Shedding a hard check at the blue line, the big forward cut from the left wing to the slot and fired a shot top corner over Blanchette’s blocker, making it a three goal game with 3:43 left in the third.
With 52 seconds left in the third, Wamboldt scored his second goal of the game for White. From behind the net, Moroz threw a pass in front, finding Wambolt’s tape, and he was able to beat Kettles, making it an 8-4 game, which stood as the final score.
