Raiders start two game road trip with 3-1 win in Lethbridge
The Prince Albert Raiders picked up their second straight win on Friday night, taking down the Lethbridge Hurricanes 3-1.
Jonah Sivertson opened the scoring 5:07 into the first period, beating Koen Cleaver with a squeaker to get things going. Sivertson picked the puck up along the left wing and circled all the way to the point and down to the right circle. From the faceoff dot, Sivertson fired a low shot that just snuck by Cleaver five hole for his 14th goal of the season to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
With 7:09 left in the first, Daxon Rudolph pinched in the Hurricanes zone to force a turnover, keeping the Raiders attack alive in the offensive zone. Rudolph deflected the puck down to Alisher Sarkenov, who spun and sniped home his ninth goal of the season. Sarkenov has been in and out of the lineup this season due to World Juniors and illness, but picked up his 18th point of the season in his 19th game.
After 20 minutes, the Raiders led 14-5 in shots, and took their 2-0 lead into the second period.
The next goal wasn’t scored until exactly one minute into the third period, as the Hurricanes got on the board on the powerplay. Kyle Heger was begging for a one timer, and he got it, taking a pass from Easton Daneault. From the blue line, Heger’s blast beat Steele Bass, making it a 2-1 game with his sixth of the season.
1:11 later, Brandon Gorzynski scored for Prince Albert to restore their two goal lead. Right after Aiden Oiring won a faceoff, Brayden Dube tapped the puck over to Gorzynski. His first shot was stopped by Cleaver, but his backhand shot on the rebound went in. It was Gorzynski’s 18th goal of the season, giving the Raiders a 3-1 lead.
That rounded out the scoring in the contest, as the Raiders kicked off their two game Alberta road trip with a win.
Prince Albert will head to Medicine Hat to take on the Tigers tomorrow night. Puck drops at 8pm Sask time.
