Raiders Knock Off Oil Kings For Second Straight Win

Edmonton, AB – The Prince Albert Raiders (10-34-3-2) earned their second consecutive win with a 5-2 victory against the Edmonton Oil Kings (18-24-3-1) at Rogers Place on Saturday night.

The Raiders did most of their damage in the second period, scoring three goals in 90 seconds to take a commanding 4-0 lead midway through the middle frame.

In the first, Curtis Miske got the game’s first goal. He deflected Jordy Stallard’s shot past Patrick Dea for his fourth goal as a Raider and ninth overall this season.

Miske and Stallard hooked up again to start the scoring in the second. After Parker Kelly drew a penalty on a breakaway attempt, Miske recovered the puck in the corner of the offensive zone. He snapped a pass to the slot and Stallard tipped the puck past Dea. 15 seconds later, Cavin Leth jammed home the rebound from Austin Crossley’s point shot. Crossley’s assist was the first WHL point of his young career. A minute later, Cole Fonstad forced a turnover, collected his own rebound and beat Dea to make it 4-0. That ended Dea’s night after allowing four goals on 16 shots.

Edmonton spoiled Nicholas Sanders’ shutout attempt 1:02 into the third period when Koch tipped a shot through the Raiders’ netminder. Shortly after, Sean Montgomery restored the Raiders’ four-goal lead when he finished off a short pass from D-Jay Jerome. Ty Gerla added another goal late for the Oil Kings, but it was as close as they would get at 5-2.

Sanders made 29 saves for the Raiders to pick up his second win in as many nights. Josh Dechaine played the rest of the game in goal for Edmonton, stopping four shots.

The Raiders wrap up their road trip on Sunday evening in Calgary when they tangle with the Hitmen at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Game time is 5 p.m. The Raiders return to the Art Hauser Centre on Friday, January 27 for Canada 150 Night.
