Raiders fall 5-2 in Swift Current to start home and home set
In the second preseason game of the year, the Prince Albert Raiders were in Swift Current to take on the Broncos. Despite outshooting the Broncos in every period, the Broncos took the win 5-2.
It only took three minutes and 32 seconds for Brayden Dube to take the puck into the offensive zone near the goal line before setting up Ben Harvey for the game’s first goal. Justice Christensen also picked up an assist.
With Luke Moroz in the box for tripping, the Broncos would score at the 5:33 mark from Rylan Gould just two minutes later. Ten seconds later the Broncos had the lead thanks to Parker Rondeau working down the left side of the ice on a rush and firing home a wrist shot.
On their second power play of the game with Kyle Obobaifo in the box for hooking, Broncos forward Brady Birnie capitalized on a rebound with with 12:04 played in the first.
In the second period, both teams found chances through the first half until the Raiders got their first powerplay chance of the game. On the man advantage, Dayce Derkatch would get the puck to Benett Kelly in the middle of the blue line, and he’d find Cole Peardon on the left side who found a lane through traffic to score nine minutes and 40 seconds in.
The Broncos would get the goal back with their third powerplay marker of the game, this time on a 4-on-3. With the open ice, Connor Hvidston found a rebound unopposed to bury it in the back of tenet, Brady Birnie and Luke Mistelbacher on the assists.
In the third period, the Broncos would add one more four minutes and nine seconds in when they entered the zone on a 3-on-2. Brady Birnie would get the final pass from Rylan Gould and Luke Mistelbacher, and Birnie would bury it for the final goal of the game.
The Raiders are back on the ice Saturday at the Art Hauser Centre when they welcome the Broncos to town to finish the home and home.
